This is a fun breathing exercise that helps with breath control, self-regulation, mindfulness, and focus.
In this activity, your child can imagine they are painting a rainbow with colours. They can start by taking a slow, deep breath in through their nose as they lift both their hands up to the top of the rainbow. They can hold their breath there for a few seconds. Then, they can begin to exhale through their mouth as they bring both their hands back down to their sides. This can be repeated for every colour of the rainbow.
You can suggest this exercise to your child when they have strong emotions or feel overwhelmed and anxious. It’s a great way to regulate their breathing and promote a sense of calm.
