For this activity, your child will co-create artworks with a partner. This activity helps develop social skills, specifically turn-taking, ideation, and flexible thinking. This is foundational to school participation in the classroom and playground, where there are group-based activities, sharing, turn-taking, and following others’ ideas.
You’ll need two sheets of paper and pencils or markers. Start drawing and swap after two minutes. Repeat for 10 minutes or until the artworks are finished.
Extensions: To make the activity more challenging, make it a 3-4 person activity to increase the number of ideas your child will have to adjust to.
Tips: If your child needs support with coming up with what to draw, prompt them to look around them to get ideas or think about something they like to eat, play with, watch, etc. If your child needs support with stopping and swapping the artworks, try using a visual timer to let them know that once the time runs out it is time to swap. If your child needs support with letting their partner add to their artwork, try drawing a line down the middle of each sheet of paper to split it into two sides.
