The Christmas season is almost here, which means that it’s time to start thinking about doing our Christmas shopping! In this blog, we are going to give you some ‘OT approved ideas’ for your little one’s stockings this year. We cover a range of Christmas presents for supporting developmental play for our tiny babies, to some fun social games for our bigger kids.
Bath Time Crayons
First up is a fun way to make drawing and writing fun from a young age! These Tolo Baby Bath Time Crayons, encourage little ones to enjoy scribbling in the bath, promoting the development of their natural grasp patterns.
Farm Squirters
Next is another bath toy! The Tolo Baby Farm Squirters bath toy is a fun and engaging way to target fine motor skills again. These little animal squirters will assist with developing your child’s pincer grasp as well as working on their hand coordination. It’s a fun way for you to get involved too!
Bath Cast
Our last bath toy, Boon Bath Cast, is another excellent way to support your child’s hand-eye coordination in a fun and engaging way!
Guess Who
The next present idea is for our bigger kids! Guess Who is a classic game that encourages our kids to use their conversation skills and promotes positive social interactions in a non-confronting way.
Puzzles
Puzzles are always a great present idea for our little ones. They encourage problem-solving skills, cognitive development, hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Big floor puzzles are a fun way for our little ones to get down on the floor to play as well:
Books
Books are another excellent present for kids. There are so many options to choose from depending on what your child likes. Books like Where’s Wally are a fun way to target visual scanning and visual discrimination. You can buy Where’s Wally at most bookstores, another fun alternative the personalised Where Are You book.
Toys to Develop Pretend Play
Pretend play is an essential step in a child’s development as it fosters their imagination, problem-solving skills and regulation. When engaging in imaginative play with others, children develop their communication and social skills as well. Pretend playsets like the Wooden Picnic Set and Wood Tool Bench Playset from Kmart are excellent for providing a foundation for their pretend play!
