“I have always been passionate about promoting and facilitating childrens’ well-being, and feel lucky enough to be able to achieve this through Occupational Therapy.”
In 2012, Sophie Bilsborough completed her undergraduate Bachelors Degree in Human Movement, before graduating from The University of Sydney with a Masters degree in Occupational Therapy. Throughout her studies, Sophie gained valuable experience working with children from a variety of backgrounds, with varying disabilities including, Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Developmental Delay, and Gross and Fine Motor difficulties. Sophie also has personal experience, caring for her intellectually disabled brother, which she finds challenging at times but mostly rewarding seeing him overcome his difficulties!
Sophie has an apt for establishing rapport with children of all ages, and likes to create a fun but challenging environment for children to get the most out of their Occupational Therapy. Sophie has developed a particular interest in working with children with handwriting and motor co-ordination difficulties. Sophie works at both our Balgowlah and Pymble clinics, and also sees children on a weekly basis at Oxford Falls Grammar School.
Sophie also has experience working with children to develop their social skills and help regulate their emotions under the Social Thinking Curriculum course. She finds it very rewarding helping kids to understand their thoughts and feelings, and also seeing the parents contentment when they can see their child making progress through this process.
Sophie has also completed training in helping children with their emotional regulation, and how this relates to childrens’ Executive Functioning through the Zones of Regulation coursework. She has found this framework particularly useful in helping children build their confidence levels and achieve their best at school, both on the playground and in the classroom.
Throughout her life, Sophie has always been passionate about keeping fit and healthy, and in her spare time, enjoys endurance trail running, photography, and exploring anywhere outdoors!
