Mahek completed her Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) at the University of Sydney. During her degree, Mahek completed OT placements in a primary school in Katherine, Northern Territory and with the Sydney Local Health District in Child and Family Services. This gave Mahek the opportunity to gain experience working with children from various backgrounds with ADHD, autism, sensory processing difficulties, developmental delays and handwriting difficulties.
For her Honours degree, Mahek also completed a research project in which she assisted in developing and testing an application called the Healthy Start App, designed to support parents to monitor healthy lifestyles in their children. After dedicating one and a half years to research, Mahek is committed to delivering evidence-based practices during her therapy sessions.
Before becoming an Occupational Therapist, Mahek was working with us as a Therapy Assistant. During this time, Mahek worked with multiple families to provide regular home therapy to help children achieve their functional goals in the home environment.
Mahek’s passion for working with children drove her to work in paediatrics. She loves seeing confidence in children grow as they overcome challenging tasks. Mahek is committed to providing family centred therapy, appreciating the importance of the interactions with both child and family in order to build rapport and trust.
Outside of work, Mahek enjoys trying a new recipe and socialising with friends. She loves to travel and is currently on a mission to visit all the countries in Asia. When she is not ticking off the next country on her bucket list, she likes to take short getaways up the coast and spend time with family.
