Mahek is currently in her fourth year of Bachelor of Occupational Therapy at the University of Sydney. Mahek has always loved being around and working with children. Throughout university, she has worked in numerous positions all related to kids – from volunteering at a after school hours care centre, to tutoring Maths and English and working in children’s respite houses.
She is excited to graduate at the end of the year and specialise in children’s OT. During her degree, Mahek has completed OT placements in a primary school in Katherine, Northern Territory and with the Sydney Local Health District in their Child and Family Services. This gave Mahek the opportunity to gain experience working with children with ADHD, autism, sensory processing difficulties, developmental delays and handwriting difficulties.
As a future OT, Mahek loves seeing confidence in children grow as they overcome challenging tasks. She appreciates the importance of the interactions with both child and family in order to build rapport and trust.
Outside of university and work, Mahek enjoys cooking a new recipe, catching up with friends for brunch or completing a puzzle. She loves to travel and is currently on a mission to visit all the countries in Asia. When she is not ticking off the next country on her bucket list, she likes to take short getaways up the coast and spend time with family.
