Peg tower is a great game to play with your child to work on pincer grasp, bilateral coordination, and hand-eye coordination. These are foundational skills for handwriting.
For this activity, you’ll need an empty plastic bottle and pegs. The aim of the game is to build the tallest tower without letting it fall down. Use one hand to hold the bottle and the other to put the peg on. Remove your hands once the peg is on! The game ends when the peg tower falls down.
Extensions: There are many alternative ways to play this game! You can have a race to see who can build the tallest tower with 10 pegs without letting it fall or why not try and build the tallest peg tower possible together! Your child may want to get involved in tasks around the home. A great task is letting your child help peg clothes onto the drying rack during laundry time. This is a great way to incorporate the activity on those busy days! You can make the activity harder by using one hand only to put the peg on.
Tips: If your child needs support with opening the peg with a pinch grip, they can start by holding the peg with a lateral pinch or tripod pinch (as demonstrated in video). If your child needs support with balancing the pegs on the tower, you can add some beads (or water, but it may get messy!) into the bottle to give it some weight.
