School-based one-on-one sessions
Our Occupational Therapists work from multiple schools across the North Shore and Northern Beaches, in addition to our Balgowlah and Pymble clinics. Your child can have their one-on-one OT session during school time if that’s more convenient for you.
Please note, this will depend on whether we are currently working at your child’s school. If you’d like us to come to your child’s school, please contact us to see how we can help your child.
Our OTs can also come and visit their client’s school to observe their classroom skills. This can be helpful for knowing which skills to work on in one-on-one OT sessions as well as being able to provide recommendations for your child’s teacher as to how best support and engage them.
School and Preschool Screenings
We can help schools and preschools identify which students may need extra support with their development by conducting screenings. This involves children completing a few tests. This helps us to see which students are struggling and could benefit from extra help.
Areas we do screenings in include:
- Handwriting Yrs K-12
- School Readiness
If you have children with developmental challenges in your class, we can come and advise on how you can best organise your classroom and structure your lessons to help them.
This is particularly helpful for students who:
- Struggle to focus and concentrate
- Are often distracted (or are distracting others!)
- Find it hard to participate in activities
- Struggle to initiate tasks
- Have any long-term medical issues or developmental challenges, such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADD/ADHD, dyspraxia or Down Syndrome
Continuing Professional Development
We regularly present a variety of talks at schools, parent association groups and for other allied health professionals. We tailor each of our in-service presentations around your school’s specific needs, questions, subject area and/or cohort age range.
Some of the topics we have previously presented on include:
- Child development
- Sensory Processing
- The Steps to Movement
- Social skills
- School Readiness
- Self Regulation
Please contact us to see how we can best help your school or preschool.
Teacher Continuing Professional Development Courses
Lots of teachers we work with want to understand more about the challenges some of their students are facing, and how to best help them.
That’s why we hold a variety of teacher courses, designed to provide you with new insights into children’s development and equipping you with practical strategies you can use to help students in your class.
Our courses can count towards your Continuing Professional Development points and we are able to offer discounts for group bookings and direct invoicing to your school, if you require.
We run multiple teacher courses throughout the year. Find out about more about our upcoming courses and register here.
